A fatal car accident took the lives of two parents and their son on July 7.
Dr. Satpal Dembla, 57, and his wife Anjala, 51, were visiting their son Ashish, 24, when their Honda Civic collided with another vehicle around 6:30 am on US 321 outside Knoxville.
Their car hit a Ford Ranger driven by Shawn Dunlap, 27, from Maryville. Police say that Dunlap was driving on the wrong side of the road, and Dunlap admitted that he might have fallen asleep behind the wheel.
The Demblas were reportedly on vacation in Pigeon Forge. Ashish is a graduate student at Georgia Tech, and his parents were visiting from India.
Ashish’s sister Kanita was also in the car, and she was treated for her injuries at UT Medical Center.
This is a very tragic story for everyone involved, especially Kanita, who lost three immediate family members in one day. If Dunlap had pulled over and taken a nap instead of attempting to drive through his tired state, they might all be alive today.
