Caleb Holman, the 17-year-old son of White Bluff Police Chief Mike Holman, passed away from spinal cord injuries sustained in a pool accident on July 4. Caleb injured his neck diving into the pool; his father was on duty when the call came in. He did not realize that his own son was the victim until he arrived on the scene.

Colman would have entered his senior year of high school this fall. His friends remembered him as calm, cheerful, friendly and outgoing.

“On your worst day, he was the one that made you smile,” said friend Brooklyn Deloach.

In the aftermath of this shocking tragedy, the entire community has joined together to share stories about Caleb and offer their support to his parents. White Bluff Mayor Linda Hayes said that city hall was flooded with calls from the community when word of the accident got out.

“I guarantee you there will be barbecues, suppers, breakfasts and lots of prayers,” said Mayor Hayes. “This community is known for generosity.” Many community members have offered their support to Caleb’s parents by donating to a fund set up at First Federal Savings and Loan in White Bluff.

More than 70 of Caleb’s friends joined together for a candlelight vigil on Tuesday, July 10 to share memories of their passed friend. The funeral was held on Friday, July 13.

It is such a tragedy when a young person leaves us in the prime of his or her life. We may not understand why he was taken from us, but we can find support in each other. If you lost a loved one due to a traumatic brain injury or spinal cord injury, give us a call for free. We would like to hear your story.
