Last month, two separate accidents shut down both directions of Interstate 40 in Nashville. One reportedly caused by a truck driver; the other by someone distracted by the accident.
According to Nashville police, Richard Chambers, a 53-year-old truck driver from Texas, swerved when he came upon slowed traffic on westbound I-40. The truck hit a Lexus, which crashed into a second tractor-trailer. Police charged Chambers with reckless driving, a Class B misdemeanor in Tennessee.
Moments later, police say “rubbernecking” caused a driver headed in the opposite direction to crash. Nashville police spokesperson Kris Mumford said that everyone involved in both accidents survived without any major injuries.
