A speeding semi caused a three-vehicle car accident on April 14 on US Route 11W. The crash occurred at 8 a.m. at the intersection of State Route 394. Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Robby Greer told the Kingsport Times-News that a Pontiac Grand Am and a Honda CRV were attempting to make a left turn when they were both struck on the driver side by the semi. Both vehicles had a green light when they were hit.
The driver of the Pontiac had to be extricated from the wreckage and rushed to the hospital, but fortunately, neither she nor the driver of the Honda was seriously injured. The Times-News noted that the impact could have been much worse if the semi’s trailer had not been empty. As it turns out, the semi driver was headed to Wytheville, Virginia, to pick up a load. The driver of the semi admitted to speeding on the 45 mph road, having his cruise control set at 58 mph. The truck driver did not appear to be impaired by drugs or alcohol, but consented to a blood test.
Thankfully this story ended more as a relief than a tragedy as no one was seriously injured or killed, but there are many more severe semi-truck accidents in which innocent motorist sustain seriously injuries. If a truck driver sets his or her cruise control above the posted speed limit and is suffering from driver fatigue after long hours on the road, the result can often be a fatal truck accident. If you are a loved one has been seriously injured due to the negligence of a truck driver then you may be entitled to compensation.
