WTVF-TV reported that a Goodlettsville motorcycle officer was seriously injured after a pickup truck struck him from behind in the Rivergate on July 23.
The station reported that the officer “stopped at a red light on Rivergate Parkway when a white Dodge Pickup truck hauling a tractor could not stop in time, and struck [him].” The officer was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the truck was cited for failure to yield. He told investigators that he “didn’t see the motorcycle until it was too late.”
According to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), there were 143 fatal motorcycle accidents in Tennessee in 2008, and 2,530 motorcycle crashes involving injuries. According to the NTSB, between 2004 and 2008, motorcycle crashes in Tennessee increased by an annual average of 9.2 percent.
