William Wesley Styron was acting as a stagehand for a Backstreet Boys/New Kids on the Block concert in Memphis, Tennessee. While setting up the stage at the Fedex Forum, he slipped and fell 13 feet to the ground. He filed a $5 million lawsuit against the boy bands, claiming that they were responsible for his fall and the subsequent traumatic brain injury.
The judge sided with the bands. He said that they “owed no duty to the plaintiff that was breached when he was injured.” Instead, the judge said that Crew One Productions, Inc., the production company that hired Styron, may be responsible. Styron claims that there were no pylons, cones or signs to warn people about the hole he fell into, and that the fall caused “loss of consciousness, seizures and convulsions.”
SLIP AND FALLS AND TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURIES
Slip and fall accidents are the leading cause of traumatic brain injuries, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Traumatic brain injuries, or TBIs, can have lasting and permanent effects. They can affect speech, mood, emotions, memory and mobility. Victims often have a completely different life after the injury.
If property owners fail to warn others about dangerous risks to guests or employers, they may be responsible for injuries and deaths that occur.
