OUR NASHVILLE INJURY ATTORNEY REPRESENTS FAMILIES AFTER FATAL CAR ACCIDENTS
In years past, the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) placed electronic billboards above highways indicating how many deaths had occurred on the state’s roadways. Recently, TDOT announced that the billboards would be returning.
REMINDERS OF THE EFFECTS OF DANGEROUS DRIVING
To date, over 800 people have lost their lives on the roads of Tennessee this year. In light of this, TDOT is seeking to raise awareness of the importance of road safety by posting daily updates of the number of car crash victims.
In Nashville, TDOT implemented one such sign above Interstate 65 on the south side of the city. The department expects that each of the state’s major highways will have the signs, including the numerous thoroughfares that run through larger cities like Memphis and Knoxville.
An official at TDOT remarked that the number on the billboard is not just an arbitrary statistic, but represents “people who have passed away.” TDOT Commissioner John Schroer noted that the “families [of the crash victims] will not get the chance to watch them open Christmas presents or be at Thanksgiving dinner.” The department is ultimately focusing on reducing the number of collisions caused by drunk or distracted drivers throughout Tennessee.
Holiday weekends were cited as an especially dangerous time to be on the roadways. As a result, Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers will be posted every 20 miles across all 455 miles of I-40 on Wednesday and Saturday of Thanksgiving week.
WHAT ARE THE DEADLIEST COUNTIES IN TENNESSEE FOR FATAL CAR ACCIDENTS
At the time of TDOT’s announcement, the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security released data about the number of deaths in each of the state’s counties.
The counties with the highest numbers of deaths were Shelby, Davidson and Knox, with each county having 78, 51 and 44 deaths respectively.
WHAT DO I DO AFTER A CAR ACCIDENT?
If you lost a loved one in a car accident, it is important to know that you have rights and options under the law. The law may hold the driver who caused the collision liable for the effects of his or her actions on your family. Although pursuing legal action cannot bring back your loved one, it could potentially result in compensation to ease your financial burdens so you can focus on your family’s emotional well-being.
