Sadly, tire blowouts can result in vehicle accidents that injure and kill many people. In the latest statistics reported from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, tire blowouts are estimated to cause more than 400 deaths and more than 78,000 crashes each year.
Unfortunately, on July 26, 11 people, including four adults and seven children, were injured in a crash on Interstate 24 in Coffee County after the van they were riding in blew a tire. The crash reportedly occurred near exit 125.
According to WKRN-TV, the van’s back left tire blew out, causing the driver of the vehicle to lose control. The van reportedly turned over on its side before landing back on all four wheels.
One child, age 12, had to be transported via flight to Erlanger Health System in Chattanooga due to the severity of his or her injuries.
WHAT SHOULD I DO WHEN MY TIRE BLOWS OUT?
To avoid a tire blowout, you should check your tires regularly for inflation and worn treads. You should also avoid road hazards, such as potholes that may result in a blowout.
Additionally, you should never overload a vehicle with passengers or cargo, as this can put undue stress on a tire.
Regrettably, some tire blowouts are unavoidable. This can occur because of defects with the tire, such as if the tire does not meet pressure requirements or weight restrictions. If you feel a defective tire is at fault for an accident involving you or a loved one, call (615) 866-3938 to schedule a free case review. You may be able to seek compensation for your injuries.
