WTVF-TV had an interesting story last week about a woman who along with her baby was involved in a scare after a truck hit her son’s school bus.
The station reported that earlier this month, Shannon Driver was walking to her son’s bus stop in Sumner County to pick him up, when the bus came to a stop. As she was waiting by the door for him to exit, with her infant son Liam, a pickup truck did not stop, crashing into the bus from behind.
The force of the bus sent its open doors into Driver, who subsequently was knocked over, forcing her to drop Liam, who came to rest a few inches away from the buses tires. “[Liam] wasn’t moving,” Driver said, according to WTVF. “His eyes were open but he was like a deer in the headlights.”
According to WTVF, Driver, Liam, and her son Christopher, were all taken to the hospital for evaluation, but escaped the accident without serious injuries. The truck driver, David Trembley, 55, died at the scene of the crash.
Driver said she believed that Liam escaped injuries because he was bundled up in layers of clothing.

You should always use caution when traveling around a bus, as they make multiple stops and have passengers getting in and out of them.
Under state law, drivers must stop their vehicle for school and/or church buses that are stopped for the purpose of loading or unloading passengers. Vehicles traveling in both directions must come to a complete stop unless the bus is stopped on a roadway divided by a barrier, in which case, only vehicles traveling in the same direction as the bus are required to stop.
According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, 11,000 bus accidents caused injuries in 2010.
