According to WTVF-TV, three people were killed in a four-car collision on Vietnam Veterans Parkway in Sumner County on January 30.

The station reported that 24-year-old Tyler Schultz, 23-year-old Rafael Coto and 24-year-old Heather L. Clinard, all from Hendersonville, were killed in the crash just before 2 a.m., in the eastbound lanes just past the Center Point Road exit.

Hendersonville Police said that none of the people killed in the accident were wearing seatbelts. Speed is believed to have played a role in the crash. Blood tests were also taken at the scene of the crash to determine if alcohol was a factor in the accident.

One person was also taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in critical condition, while four others were treated and released at Hendersonville Medical Center.

A Chevrolet Impala struck from behind a Honda Pilot driving eastbound reportedly, instigating the crash. The force caused the driver of the Pilot to lose control of the vehicle and strike the guard rail, before regaining control of the vehicle about 300 to 400 feet after the initial accident. The Impala then spun around facing oncoming traffic, where a Nissan Altima hit it head-on. An oncoming SUV the sideswiped then Altima after the crash.

All four vehicles came to a rest just before the bridge over Center Pass Road.

NEED A NASHVILLE DUI ACCIDENT ATTORNEY?

An investigation should help determine the cause of this crash. If this was a case of drunk driving, many people could be at fault. A study by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) indicated that Tennessee ranked 11 out of the 51 states (plus Washington D.C.) for the least amount of DUI-related deaths.

Any drunk driving death is one death too many. There are alternatives to drinking and driving including having a designated driver, using public transportation or calling a cab.
