Sadly, according to WBBJ-TV, a Metro Nashville Public Works employee was killed on July 14 after a garbage truck struck him.
The news outlet reported that the 19-year-old employee was riding on the back of the truck when its driver backed into an alley, pinning him between the vehicle and a wall. After the truck moved following the pinning, the worker fell underneath the vehicle’s passenger tires.
The employee died at the scene of the accident, which remains under investigation. Metro Police said that as of last week, the incident appeared to be a “tragic accident” and it was not suspicious.
FATAL WORKPLACE ACCIDENTS. WHY SHOULD I SPEAK TO AN ATTORNEY?
As we reported in April, if your loved one is killed in a workplace accident, you should speak to our Nashville injury attorney. If negligence contributed to a workplace accident, you could hold your loved one’s employer liable via a wrongful death lawsuit.
In addition to this, you may be able to collect certain workers’ compensation death benefits or file a third party lawsuit if another entity was involved in a fatal accident. For example, if another driver injured your loved one or a property owner did not properly maintain a safe worksite, in addition to holding your love one’s employer liable, you may be able to seek damages from other entities.
