Is your vehicle involved in the Takata airbag recall? If you are unsure about whether or not your vehicle has been affected, you can visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) database and search by the VIN number.
To this point, the recall is geographical and involves about a dozen vehicle manufacturers. The airbags can reportedly open with too much force, explode and hit passengers with shrapnel. So far, there have been multiple lawsuits filed over injuries allegedly occurring because of the defective airbags. There has also been a wrongful death lawsuit filed.
Remember, if a defective product like a recalled airbag injures you or kills your loved one, you should hold the airbag manufacturer and the vehicle company civilly liable.
WOMAN SUES HONDA AND TAKATA FOR SPINAL CORD INJURIES
According to the Los Angeles Times, a Florida woman has filed a lawsuit against Honda and Takata, saying she was left paralyzed by a replacement airbag following an accident.
According to the Times, last year, 76-year-old Pamela Mincey ran a red light going about 20 mph in her 2001 Honda Civic and collided with an SUV. Her airbag allegedly deflated too forcefully, paralyzing her from the neck down. The airbag, manufactured by Takata, was a replacement installed in Mincey’s car in 2009, after a recall.
It should be noted that about 6 million Honda vehicles in the U.S. have been affected by Takata airbags, and about 2.8 million have officially been recalled, according to the Times.
MY VEHICLE HAS DEFECTIVE AUTO PARTS AND I WAS INJURED. SHOULD I SPEAK TO AN ATTORNEY?
Remember, injuries associated with defective auto parts often require long-term care, which can be expensive, especially if they are broken bones, spinal cord injuries and brain injuries.
This is why it is important to speak to an attorney if you believe a defective product has injured you. An experienced attorney can review your case and determine if you may be entitled to damages, which can be useful in helping pay for long-term medical care.
