According to WBBJ-TV, five employees were injured recently in Gibson County at a ConAgra Foods plant when a pipe filled with caramel burst.
The news outlet reported that the incident took place on July 30, inside a food processing plant on North Central Avenue. The injured workers sustained serious burns, according to WBBJ, although the injuries were not considered to be life threatening.
The employees who were injured were taken to hospitals in Humboldt for treatment. One person was transported via helicopter to a Memphis hospital for serious injury treatment.
ConAgra released a statement after the incident saying that the employees had followed “established protocols and immediately contacted emergency response personnel,” following the incident.
It remains unclear why the pipe burst. The accident remains under investigation.
