On June 30 at 7 a.m., a man driving east on Couchville Pike came across a silver truck wrapped around a pole on the side of the road. The man, Brian Anderson, got closer, and two things became apparent:
- There were flames coming from under the hood of the truck
- There was a woman trapped inside
Anderson ran over to the vehicle and started screaming to the woman inside, trying to wake her up. When she awoke, he warned her to turn her head, because he was going to have to break the glass. She started to roll down the window before realizing in horror that she was trapped inside a burning vehicle.
THE RESCUE
Anderson put his hands in the small gap at the top of the window and wrenched the glass outward, shattering the window in his hands. He then reached inside and pulled the dazed woman out of the vehicle, ignoring the pain from arthritis in his hands. The two stumbled away from the truck as an inferno rapidly engulfed it.
No one else was in the area at the time of the car accident. Had Anderson not been in the right place at the right time, the woman may not have survived the accident. The cause has not been released. The victim sustained a broken collar bone, rib, and a punctured lung, but has been treated and is now resting at home.
